I love walking around Melbourne and finding treasures that make my eyes light up and my lips curved up. Last Sunday, I had one of those moments.
I was spending time with mum at QV when we passed an art space with pretty signs saying: “Hope is all you need.” Coincidentally, an hour before that, a friend of mine messaged me and told me about this very exhibition (he sure knew this was my kinda thing!) So, of course, I had to pay this place a visit.
Created by Band4Hope, the “Hope is all you need” exhibition invites various Melbourne-based artists – from digital illustrators to sound artists to interactive installation peeps – to showcase a selection of their works that responds to the theme of hope.
Here are some photographs I took with my trust iPhone 5:
There are a few things that I love about this exhibition:
- Free entry. I mean, I love imaginative art installations. But free imaginative art installations? I like that even better!
- Visually appealing: Vivid colours, postcards and posters on the wall of people and places, a vintage ladder and a tree with wishes and messages.
- Music to my ear: The soothing music that invited us to participate in creating this beautiful work of art.
- The idea that “Hope is contagious” – as written in various materials around the room. Hope is more than one person. It can be passed on. It should be passed on.
- Call to collaborate. The main installation right in the middle of the venue wasn’t for us to just look at or admire from afar. It was a tree created from colourful threads with messages of hope. More specifically, it asked us to take a tag and write our own message and hang it on the tree. We become more than just a spectator. We are collaborators. We are partners. We are artists.
So, of course, I participated. Mum did too. I think we all should! :)
For those who wish to contribute, sadly, last Sunday was the last day of the exhibition. But you can find out more information and support the good work of Band4Hope on their website.
Band4Hope is a not-for-profit social enterprise empowering you to spread hope through trackable wristbands, passed on to raise money for charity & inspire acts of kindness.
So the question goes back to you! Answer this: I hope that in my lifetime …
