Ramen Museum, you say?! Sign me up, I say!
Yup. When I first heard of food museums in Japan (a.k.a. food theme park, i.e. a food court selling one type of food done in many ways), I was excited! And when I heard of the ramen museum in Yokohama, I knew I had to visit.
We arrived in Shin-Yokohama Station from Tokyo at night time and straight away made our way to the Ramen Museum, about 5 minutes away from the station.
We purchased the tickets from the machine outside before entering the museum itself and using the ticket to walk past the entry gate.
Plenty to see from the get-go. To start with, yes, ramen history… How it all started. To be honest, I only read a little bit before walking through to the shop area…
Plenty of interesting ramen-related things, but we decided to return a little later after our tummies are filled with ramen. So that was when we entered an old-looking alleyway with empty stores and interesting things to see along the way…
And the coolest quote ever: “No Ramen, No Life”. Yup.
We then reached the area where all the ramen shops are.
Anyways, we did choose a couple of places… To be honest, I couldn’t really remember which ones we picked… But they were all pretty good, so give them a try!
There was even a performance in the communal area outside all the restaurants. This dude was rather entertaining, although I had no idea what he was saying…
After having enough ramen, we walked back to the shop area. They have everything from kitchen utensils for making ramen to make-your-own ramen packaging to just random souvenirs.
We walked out of the ramen museum pretty late already. Outside the store, there was a video showing how you should eat (and slurp) your ramen.
Would I recommend the Ramen Museum to others? I think it’s worth a try if you’re in Yokohama area and you’re a huge ramen fan. I am, but even then I was still a little disappointed by the rules of one ramen per person per shop. But oh well, it was a good experience nonetheless.
